An owner of a Tesla said he was "flabbergasted" when the bill to fix their electric car was way too high. For fixing their Tesla after the battery was damaged by rain last week, Johnny Bacigalupo and Rob Hussey told the Scottish news site Edinburgh Live that they were charged £17,374, which is about $21,000. "This really is hard for me to believe." Bacigalupo told Edinburgh Live, "When I first got the call, I thought we would get a bill for £500 or £1,000. "It's completely outrageous that they said over $17,000." In all honesty, my heart skipped a beat. "Elon Musk told JD Power in 2019 that replacing a Tesla battery could cost $5,000 to $10,000," but the numbers were different in 2023, the report said. Anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000 to replace an EV battery, according to Recurrent, a company that keeps an eye on their health. Following their inability to start their car and making plans for a collection service to bring it to Tesla Edinburgh, Bacigalupo and Hussey said that on Wednesday they got a call saying that the battery was "damaged due to water ingress." They were told that the eight-year warranty didn't cover this and that they were asked if they wanted to pay about £17,500 for a fix. "Am I sure I want to go ahead with this? ""I was shocked and truly speechless," Bacigalupo told Edinburgh Live. He also said that he asked the Tesla employee what the couple did wrong. It was confirmed by emails between Tesla and the couple, and the news source saw an email from Tesla's customer service department saying it was looking into the complaint. Fox Business claimed that a similar thing happened last year when a Canadian Tesla owner was told it would cost $26,000 to get a new battery for his car. It was owned by Mario Zelaya, who talked about it in a TikTok video. He said that he couldn't get into his Tesla Model S because the battery died. Zelaya said he sold his Tesla in the end after spending $30 to get new ownership papers that were locked in the car. There are different rates at which EV batteries lose power, based on things like how they were charged and where the vehicle was driven.
